| PARKLEX TAKES PART IN THE 2010 SOLAR DECATHLON |
PARKLEX has once again collaborated in the ARMADILLO project with its new Natural Bamboo finish, alongside the École National Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble (France). It will be presented in collaboration with Grands Ateliers de l’Isle d’Abeau, a public institution created in 2002 by 11 different advanced research centers in France.
The building (ARMADILLO) is based on a low-cost core structure with basic technology that is easy to build, weatherproof and insulted from outside temperatures.
The material selection took into account the amount of CO2 each generates, as well as the non-sustainable energy required for their production. Favored were renewable, ecological materials, such as soil and PARKLEX wood products, which are completely natural and always manufactured in an environmentally-friendly manner with strict quality control guidelines.
With this in mind, Parklex’s new Natural Bamboo finish was selected for two different applications: Parklex 2000 as floating parquet throughout the home and Parklex 500 on the ceilings, perforated for excellent acoustic properties. Parklex 700 with a Copper finish was chosen for kitchen and bathroom wall coverings, as this is the perfect product for use in high-moisture areas. Parklex Façade with a Copper finish, specially treated for use on façades, was also used on the outside.
The Solar Decathlon (SD) is a competition organized by the U.S. Government’s Department of Energy. Universities throughout the world are called to compete in designing and building energy self-sufficient homes that operate using solar power alone. They are connected to the power grid and incorporate technology that gives them maximum energy efficiency.
The homes built by the university teams compete in ten trials (hence, the name Decathlon) that put to test their self-sufficiency and energy efficiency.
For the first time this year, the SD will be held outside the United States. The first edition of the Solar Decathlon Europe began yesterday in Madrid, and will continue until June 27.
